According to Archilla, this approach, unique to Mazda, results in a lower ride frequency, enhancing comfort and control.
"The spring rate is lower, allowing it to absorb imperfections effortlessly. Yet, we've increased damping force for initial movements, keeping body posture and motions well-controlled," he adds.
Steering with Precision
Mazda's focus extends to steering feel, adding more analog feedback for a truly immersive driving experience. Their refined G-Vectoring Control system reduces engine torque, transferring weight to the front tires during turns, enhancing grip and response.
"This creates more force fed back through the steering, giving the driver a more connected feel," Archilla notes.
And this is the part most people miss: the 2026 CX-5 introduces a lightly preloaded torque coupling in the all-wheel-drive system. This innovative feature forces the front and rear tires to spin at the same rate, ensuring a straight-line path and improving steering feel.
"It's a self-aligning torque that translates into more force through the column, and when combined with reduced damping in the electric power steering assist, the result is a more tactile, analog feedback experience," Archilla explains.
