The government has officially greenlit the construction of a new secondary school in Kettering, Northamptonshire. This decision comes after years of anticipation and advocacy from local residents and officials.
The school's proposed location, Hanwood Park, has been a focal point of discussion since 2011 when planning permission was granted for 5,500 new homes. The site is part of one of the nation's largest planned garden communities, promising a vibrant and sustainable future for the area.

Reform UK-run North Northamptonshire Council had previously predicted a significant shortfall in secondary places from 2027 to 2028 without the new school. This prediction underscored the urgency of the situation, as highlighted by local resident David Wilmot, who spoke of a 'catastrophic failure' in delivering the school.
The school's original timeline aimed for an opening by 2024, but the government's confirmation is a crucial step forward. Chris Langdon, project director at Hanwood Park, expressed enthusiasm, stating that the decision reinforces the project's sustainability and success.
